Good Afternoon Scala Friends! Hope you’re all doing well. This place smells like brown sage butter sauce. Here are a few things going on around here:
NO CORKAGE FEE THURSDAYS: Bring in a bottle or three, grab your friends and visit us on Thursdays. We never charge corkage fees on Thursday nights. 515-244-1353 for reservations. We also added some cool wines to our wine menu. Check our wine list out here.NEW FALL MENU: Yes, the butternut squash cappelacci, truffled brussel sprouts and squash panna cotta are back. Take a look at our current fall menu.Cafe di Scala Beatles Brunch
BEATLES BRUNCH: The Scala Band will be at it again this Sunday, November 4th for our Beatles Brunch, open from 10-2.  Call for a reservation to secure a seat for this one of a kind show featuring Chef Phil Shires in the kitchen and his counterpart Tony up front keeping the mimosas flowing. Space is tight, so call 515-244-1353 for reservations. I’ve also attached the Brunch menu below.

HOLIDAY PARTIES: We are starting to fill up for holiday events. Book a party, and you can have the entire cafe exclusively Sunday through Wednesdays and lunch gatherings any day of the week. Check out our Private Events page on our website.

Many of you have gotten to know our own Chef Phil Shires over the years. He’s a good friend, he’s got great taste in music and he’s a master at the art of food.

One of his many gifts is his perfection of seafood. Over the past few months or so, we’ve been posting photos to our Facebook page some of his many beauties. We thought we’d take a few minutes to share with you some of these spectacular creations.

Please join us for a wonderful evening of family, friends and neighbors for Cafe di Scala’s Six Year Anniversary Dinner. We’ll serve five courses prepared by Tony and Chef Phil Shires, each paired with a carefully selected Italian wine. The dinner is $65 per person, is limited to 40 people and starts at 7pm on Tuesday, July 26th. You’re welcome to join us beforehand with your friends at the bar for a cocktail or a glass of wine. Happy Summer Scala Friends!
As we promised in our last update, we’re celebrating six years of Cafe di Scaladom in July.  (Yes, I realize I just made up a word there.)  So here’s how we’re going to celebrate during the month of July.

July Anniversary Specials
Thursday No Corkage Fee: Bring your own bottle of wine in on Thursday nights and we’ll waive our normal corkage fee. (This includes Thursday, June 30th)
Friday Live Jazz: Live Jazz 7-10 each Friday in July.

  • 1st: Closed for a private event
  • 8th: Hot Club of Des Moines with Hannah Bretz
  • 15th: Max Wellman Trio
  • 22nd: Daniel Mastroski Duo
  • 29th: Mike Pfaff & Jeff Karnoski Duo

Saturday Toasts: Free glass of prosecco either before or after your meal.

Anniversary Dinner
On Tuesday, July 26th, a limited number of seats will be available for a very intimate five- course dinner that Chef Phil Shires & Tony are building. Many of the dishes and hand selected wines will be from the region of Calabria, Italy which is where the town of Scala is tucked away. Our menu will be released on our blog on Friday, July 1. Scala Sunday Beatles Brunch

80/35 Music Festival
Come experience another fun culinary side of Cafe di Scala as we’ll be setting up camp at this years 80/35 Music Festival. We’ll be featuring three unique wraps, easy for a delicious, healthy summertime treat. You can enjoy these unique treats set against the backdrop of an all-star lineup of bands on July 2nd & 3rd. Cafe di Scala Spring Menu & Sunday Beatles Brunch

Spring Greetings Scala Friends & Family!

Tulips are sprouting, the Scala garden is taking shape and the first pitch as been tossed which means we’re ready to announce a new lineup of our own.  Our spring menu is back! From Chef Phil’s braised pork belly and goat cheese ravioli to Tony’s baked polenta cakes and citrus panna cotta, rest assured spring happiness awaits upon your visit.

We’ve added a few spectacular wines on our by the glass lists: A gorgeous white (Pecorino) from Abruzzo, a silky, spicy red (Aglianco) from Campania, a petite red  treasure (Valpolicella DOC) from the Veneto region and a new Grappa (Barbera) from the northern stretches of Piedmont. In addition to our by the glass list, you will find a few more unique whites (just in time for the warm patio weather) from the North East and some new expressions of the native Sicilian Nero D’Avola grape.

If you’re in town for the Drake Relays, we’d love to have you.  Please visit us during normal dinner hours (Thursday through Saturday from 5-10), book a private lunch-dinner event or celebrate your morning this Sunday as we host our monthly Sunday Beatles Brunch (10-2PM).

Hello Friends!

It’s almost Beatles Brunch time again! The Fab Four makes an appearance in the Cafe di Scala kitchen with Chef Phil Shires on the first Sunday of every month. They put on quite a show.  This month’s Beatles Brunch takes place on Sunday, March 6th from 10am-2pm. Please spread the word to your friends and family and call us for reservations at 515-244-1353, since seats fill up fast. Take a gander at our menu here.
