James Biehn is a local musician here in Des Moines and was diagnosed with lymphoma late last year. He started treatment immediately after the holidays and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. We’re asking for your help, or at least to read this and pass it on to your friends.

I am not sure if you are familiar with “Beardtoons,” so if not, please let me introduce you to what I’m doing. I’m holding a lottery-style fundraiser for James and I’m donating my beard. People who buy a ticket for $5 get the chance to mix-match styles on the attached poster and create facial hair styles to go on their Beardtoons “lottery” ticket. This Saturday, I will be drawing the winning ticket and will shave my beard to match that selected style. It will remain on my face until we run out of donations (each ticket sold also translates to .3 days). Donations to increase my pledge time are accepted until the time expires, and will be heavily promoted until then. It’s approaching 3 months already. You can view potential beard styles here.

Cafe di Scala, Mars Cafe, Gusto Pizza Co, and other businesses in the metro are pitching in gift cards to generate more attention for Beardtoons. **UPDATE: Gift cards from Big City Burgers and Greens and Dos Rios Cantina and Tequila Lounge have been donated as well.** We are organizing a twitter contest for anyone who “retweets” about the Beardtoons website. For the contest, Cafe di Scala will also include people who have shared the link on their Facebook page and those people are entered into a drawing for a few of the gift cards. Anyone who donates to Beardtoons by Saturday will be entered into a second drawing for the remaining gift cards. If you know of a company or business interested in helping, tell them that they will be named towards the top of the website as a sponsor, which has raised over $700 in under 2 weeks & has been visited by nearly 6000 people already.
Two of my friends are joining me in holding similar beard “lotteries” & will be promoting the gift cards as well.
